225/50R15 is pretty meaty but is just under 24" tall. Square on an 8" wheel but I'd run it on a 9 for better feedback. R888R, shaved RA1s (or full depth if you're going to use them on the street), RE-71RS, A052 all options for street/track use. I use these on the rear of performance 911s (whose owners expect modern-ish grip) that come through our shop combined with 205/50R15 fronts. I hate the tiny sidewall of the 205s but the 225s look good.
Could also run the common autocross size of 245/40ZR15 but they're only 23" so they aren't meaty. Gotta run stupid low for 23" tires to look good.
If you want a vintage-look tire, you could run a Michelin TB 5+ in 18/60-15, which is the equivalent of a 215/55R15. Squared shoulders, no siping on the outer and inner tread blocks. They're expensive but they're good tires that look best on a vintage-styled car with squared-off aero, an appropriate color scheme, and the right wheels.
Edit: I don't have any pics, though.
