A TV game show can use one, so why not the judicial system. I understand how people can object to them as invasion of privacy and such, but it seems that murder/serious trials are the one place where it would actually be morally acceptable to use a lie detector.

Lie detectors can not only be beaten, but also sometimes give off poor readings which can be mistaken as a lie.
The detectors read signs including to bloodpressure fluxuations. Even when you tell the truth, sometimes those signals still give off because you are nervous as hell.
And Flip. I searched how to make chloroform once. Its actually not as hard as you would think. There is even a youtube video about it.
