If you get a K&N air filter, there is a special oil they sell with it (it isn't very expensive at all) to apply that is almost completely waterproof. I believe that K&N is the only company that specializes in stuff like that. You have to reapply the oil and clean the filter once in a while, but K&N air filters have a lifetime guarantee. If it would make you feel more comfortable about the CAI, I would say go ahead and have someone build a shield to help prevent water getting into the filter, but I wouldn't have a dealer do it, unless he's going to do it "on the side" at a friend's price--he'll rip you off otherwise. As for the heat shield, I'm wondering the same thing because I'm saving the money for the Injen intake with CAI. I hear it's awesome when the weather gets cooler!
