I have a 1995 240sx with a s13 blacktop swap. For some reason when I am getting on it hard in first and second gear when it hits boost it makes a lot of popping and a detinating noise. It doesnt really do it in 3rd to 5th gear. In first and second I dont really have much power now since this started. Any suggestions?

K...thats so vague nobody can help you. What kinda shiet have you tried so far? If you havent, id start with sparkplugs, gap them to stock SR specs.

you probably need an air fuel adjustment...your getting less fuel in 3rd-5th with lower rpm's in first and second you are dumping fuel like crazy, hence the popping nioses

I have changed the spark plugs twice and gap them to specs. I checked for boost leaks and cant find any... Why would the ecu all of a sudden be dumping more fuel then air..

its a self learning ecu. the sensors might be telling it to dump more fuel so it is doing so...

last thing i can think of and this is a long shot
unplug your battery over night and connect it before you go to drive it. drive very very easy with it. dont mash it from stops and dont accelerate fast at all. do this for about 15 minutes and see if there are any differences then. after about 15 - 20 min of driving easy. stop some were shut it off start it up and go beast on it a couple of times and see what happends

let me know if this helps

Jay

ight. I just ordered a timing light. The timing is off so im going to mess with that first. Thanks for your suggestions.

boost leak, MAFS 1 of those, i had same problem...

I have no more boost leaks. Fixed that. We adjusted the throttle and still no luck.

check the TPS.
it sounds like wrong spark plug gaps. make sure it's .028
fuel filter, bad fpr, weak fuel pump. check compresion. check wiring.

I messed with the timing and retarded it a bunch and it fixed the sputtering problem. Its running ok now but it doesnt fell anywhere as strong as it use to. I have a timing light. Where do I connect the timing light since the sr20det has coils?

there should be a black wire loop on the coil pack harness.

I cant find that wire. On heavy throttle they say to "....set the timing to 16 degrees using a spark plug wire on the 1 st cylinder..." I dont understand what they mean.

are you running premium gas?

yes. does anyone know what that means

as for testing spark, get a random spark plug wire, take out the coil on #1, run the wire from the coil to the spark plug, test accordingly.

the timing light connects to a black wire at the back of the engine where the coil wires all come to one, there is a black wire coming out of the wrapping and makes a loop. hook it up there.

Ok... I adjust the timing just like you said to and it works. Thanks . I got most of my power back. I ride it around for a day. Tonight I drove it around then came home for about 20 minutes. I leave my road and get out onto one of our main roads and get on it. It starts to misfire again like it had been doing (just when it gets into boost). I drive like that for about 5 miles then shut the car off and start it back up and it runs fine again. Any ideas?

test maf and check for bad wires going to cas and maf

How do I test the maf

are you sure it's a miss fire? Or does it sound like injectors are putting out too much gas? My wiring harness was grounding on somewhere on my firewall and it made a pusing sound on injector too when i drove around. felt zero power when driving around, almost sounds like a miss fire. check wiring man.
