Ok guys i allways wanted a hydro ebrake for my s14.5 but i never got around to it. Heres some somewhat detailed instructions on the setup. It is really easy, and only takes about an hour.

First call up CNCbrakes.com and order the "staging brake" for disc brakes. $95

Then find a mounting point.

Then make a mounting bracket.
http://www.shockdrifting.com/articles/lukefd/4-28.jpg

Mount it up.

Now find the hard line that goes to your rear brakes.

Dissconect the line from the rear, and bend it up to the front of the staging brake. Now go to auto zone and buy a 5ft hard brake line. Hook this up to the rear brake valve, and bend the other end up to the exit of the staging brake.

Bleed the system and you are done. Total cost $100. Gangster value: Priceless. http://www.shockdrifting.com/articles/lukefd/4-26.jpg

that's cool. so you still have the cable ebrake too?

have any pics of how you bent the line?

Krustin: Sorry no. just bend everything without kinking stuff so the fluid flow is not restricted.

Go240: Nope eliminated that, and the cables to save weight, the fd ebrake is crap in comparison to a 240 so i dont need it at all.

Just so you guys know it literally takes 1/10th the effort to lock the rears with this setup, a 5 year old could lock em up at 100mph.

Yay!!!
I like fog.....

So, I have a stupid question: Can you still park on a hill with a setup like this or is this race car only gear?

so what are the sideeffects of pulling the ebrake while on the foot brake?? this has been topic of discussion on another forum.

You kill speed very fast and more than likely you'll spin out if you dont know what you're doing. Only time i would think of doing that is if you came into a corner too hot and you needed a lot of speed scrubbed off very quickly to hit the apex right. You've gotta do it right though otherwise you'll kill too much speed too quickly and end up looking like a complete tool. hahaha :p

To stay on topic, hydraulic set up looks good. Nice job!

thanks jay, i should refrain my words, what happens if you push the ebrake while on the foot pedal if your parked etc?? recalling discussion was that possibly something wont work since there is already pressure in teh rear?? i dunno

It will not effect the bias, but it will not allow any more pressure applied to the rears. It will not change the pedal feel either.

so is there a locking mechanism so that you can still park the car without leaving it in gear?

Nice work, Your car is coming along nicely. Now I'm interested in this brake system... My only gripe is your lever should be a dildo shift knob!

i'm diggin the "bail bonds" key chain lanyard...

i'm glad you decided pull type in THAT location, rather than push type where the handbrake was.

Or put it in gear.

Or put it in gear.

you can't w/ a turbo timer

Or put it in gear.
won't hold on a decent incline (or at least i wouldn't trust it)

You could still retain your stock ebrake for parking.

i would definately shorten the lever, can it be mounted like a normal e-brake in the horizontal position?

!Zar!

It looks if it would be more natural to pull the lever back instead of pulling it up. IMO. But in theory you could make or create a shorter lever and bend it forward.

Look at the position of the ebrake with the steering wheel mounted.
Its perfect. http://www.shockdrifting.com/articles/lukefd/4-29.jpg

would you have to do anything different if you wanted to keep the stock ebrake setup for parking on hills and such???

blu808
12-14-2005, 04:49 PM
Nope, it does not effect the cable setup.

Please elaborate a bit more on how the lines are to be run. Your description is quite vague. Some sort of diagram would be awesome. Thanks!

nice writeup... very informative. Yea a diagram or something would be nice.

Just to clarify, if i wanted to retain the stock cable ebrake i could correct? and does the handle brake effect the feel or braking power of the rest of the brake system?

again, good write-up and install ...really clean

The rear calipers are spring loaded and they operate off a cable. You absolutely will not touch that with this e-brake setup. All this is is a seperate master with a big lever that you run in line with the rear brake line. It uses the same brake fluid that compresses your rear brakes now. I think there are better places to mount the ebrake but everyone has their own preference... Also I believe ksport makes an ebrake thats similar to the stock one too... I think the biggest advantage is the location in relation to the stock location when riding in a bucket seat. I guess maybe it's cause I like my seat kinda far forward but it was uncomfortable as hell to pull the stock ebrake. Also you will feel the difference when you press this and the brake pedal... It feels like it's pushing the foot pedal closer to you but it's really not that bad.

Anyways I feel this is one of the best mods I've done to my car in a loooong time. I couldn't imagine anyone regretting this mod... I just don't like how people try to keep their stock ebrake or mount this out of the way... This needs to be mounted where it's most comfortable for you to grab instantly... So basicly if your a pussy and want to keep your stock interior, ebrake or whatever it may be then this might be better lodged in your ass... but if you track your car and you want to improve the feel of your car than this is great!

I know this is digging back faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar. But does anyone have pictures of an completed install? I'm just curious to see how they brought the lines up into the car, and then back down. Completed pictures, or even a more detailed description of install would rule.

thanks
