a 10mm spacer shouldn't hurt.

if I get bolt on adapters will tire shops bitch about not being able to mount ontop spacers?

an indepdent tire shop or motorsport place.. shouldn't matter..about the adaptor..but..if you take it to like cosco or sam's club or somethign like that..they would bitch because usually only mount tires and rims on oem spec..they will not work on your car because they can't risk the rim falling off or something hapening to your car if not mounted correctly..

i would buy new wheels but if you want you can buy spacers. i would get h&r trak+ spacers. they are proven and tested.

+1 for H&R Hubcentric spacer, if you're getting 10mm or more.

5mm should clear fine.

Next time, get better sizing so you dont need to run a spacer.

+1 for OTG, good peoples. If youre going to use over 5mm thought to be safe you want to use extended studs.

You need atleast 10mm. I'm using 17x8 +25 (FNs) and it gives me just enough space to clear IMO.

I used to have 16x8 +30 with Tein HE (with 205/50/16). If I had the coilover set to max positive camber at the slotted holes that attach to the spindle, the tire would clear the coilover. If I had it pushed all the way in (max neg camber), the tire touched.

Another +1 for OTG.

EDIT: I meant camber, not caster...

My 17x8 +35 clear my D2's fine, not much clearance though. I couldn't clear it with anything larger than 215/45 though. I'm going to pick up a small spacer as well though so I can squeeze a 245 under the front.

D2s are different. the bracket that attaches to the spindle is different. You can't verify that D2s work when HEs won't just like how my N1 pros work with 17x9 +20. Just go with a 10mm spacer, but I'm worried about having enough threads to use to be safe.

Or a 15mm bolt on spacer and not worry about having enough threads. Or get lower offset wheels. ;)
