i was wondering if anyone knew where i can go on the internet to find a complete write up on an engine swap for a 1990 240sx se with a KA24E in it. i am wanting to swap a VG30DETT in it and cant find much on the net.

Well, since Z32 is the chassis code, not the engine code, I think you're going to have trouble swapping an entire chassis into an existing chassis. Especially since the Z32 is considerably wider, but I'm game to watch you try.

there's only a handful of them out there, and it takes a lot of skill, custom work, and money...plus the motor is a huge bitch (its like 6 bitches on a bitch bike!) to work on....waste of time IMO...

if there's a will...
...there's a way!

http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB9&Number=67961180&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1

and if you DO decide to pursue this very time-consuming and costly venture, please do a writeup for everyone else's benefit.

happy motoring,

After we get my vg30de in my drop top ill do a full write up on it for you guys. Its a LOT different than the tt but its still worth it.

This topic has, obviously, come up before.

I recommend that you purchase a Z32 TT that needs its engine replaced. After you complete that repair, I guarantee that you will not want to put a VG30DET in anything smaller than a full-size pickup truck.

Good luck with your other pipe dreams, though.

BTW, that link from FreshAlloy was AWESOME!

Why not go VG30ETT. It's easier to fit, and it just comes shy one exhaust valve per cylinder. Easier to modify TB's stock is 56mm, you can upgrade to the KA TB @60mm. There is also an abundance of parts. They made the vg30e fit into the 87-88 s12/200sx se models. It fit nicely and makes good power when modified.

Why not a rb engine??

:werd: inline 6 .. dont have to deal with big V design, with bigger manifolds and pipings. etc.

Nothing wrong with the RB, the thread starter made it sound as if he wanted a swap that was a little more original. Thats like saying why not an L28 or L24, you don't really hear people bringing up those engines at all.

:werd: inline 6 .. dont have to deal with big V design, with bigger manifolds and pipings. etc.
The VG30e was just a suggestion, it's internals still lack, problems like a casted crank, rather than a forged. The VG 30e crank would only be able to take about 300CHP, it would need the fully forged crank from the vg30dett.
Even though it isn't RB most internal parts between the VG 30e, and the DE are interchangeable, the VG30block weighs less than the DE and is slimmer in design. There is an abundance of parts on the market just as the RB has.....
I'm not understanding what you meant by bigger manifolds, and piping? RB uses large pipes and manifold's also.

Yeah I'd love to take credit for that one, but it's from Aqua Teen Hunger Force (the frat aliens episode)

240RPS13, if you notice the FreshAlloy forum thread... the VG30DETT S13 guy is in ... Indiana, so you are in luck... why dont you ask him directly.... ?

dude, just go for it if you really want it.....it appears you're getting a lot of "waste of time, why not this instead, etc." seriously, just because one guy won't do it or can't do it because of "bigger manifolds and piping".....doesn't mean others should be discouraged....thanks to the guy who posted the freshalloy thread--beat me to it....that guy mounted his booster and master cylinder (i think) under the dash for more room....there's also another guy on freshalloy putting in the NA vg30de ( i think he's done now)....good luck...

Nobody is trying to discourage this guy...hell, innovation and wacky ideas like this are what keep cars interesting. However, everyone is just pointing out the fact that this has been done and discussed a number of times and it is not a cheap and easy endeavor like a SR or some honda swap. Most of us would love to see more VG's, VQ's, RB's, etc. out there, but there's a few reasons it's not commonly done. Believe me, ideas are rarely new, especially for a car that hit the market starting 17 years ago. If it's not done that often, there's usually a good reason. If you wanna do it, then do it by all means. But, just like all the guys wanting a TT KA or whatever I hear a lot, it might not be worth the trouble. Just weigh the costs and benefits carefully man...

another write up on the vq very similar to vg as far as difficulty and one guy in this thread did a vg swap. I have been thinking about the vq35de swap for my s14. IMO the vg is too heavy for the car.

I agree I use to have one. to work on 1 thing you have to atleast remove 3 others. for example.

To remove alternator you gotta remove

1. radiator
2. radiator shroud
3. Unbolt powersteering pump for clearance
4. Tentioner

then alternator

clutch jobs are imposible with out gettin gth emotor off the stands and scooting it forward. and tilting.

not reliable

but definetly powerfull non the less.

you obviously live a very sheltered life.

do the benefits of a VG30DETT outweigh the issues inherent in the swap? No.
is it worth it? probably not. will it look sweet if done properly? yes. will it be relatively individual? yes.

hmmm.... i'd pass...but it's not my car.

I think that the VG30dett would be more successful if it was a VG30det.
One single larger turbo on that type of displacement would make it a monster over the RB25det. Spool time using a T28, or possibly even a t3/04e would show some signicant differences......
Using the full displacement of 3litres instead of 1.5litres per turbo, would be sweet. The vg30dett was never glorified as a power house engine due to horrible lag times, maybe a single turbo is the way to go.

yes i like my single turbo. im about to go with a bigger this summer. gt42r
