Engine is completely stock S14 KA24DE, just changed the oil about yesterday with new filter too. (full synthetic, if it matters.) And always premium gas

I went to get smog for my car and found out it failed the functionality test. They told me that my timing was 10 degrees. (spec.= 20) :-/

So to day I went to get it fixed, and saw that when timing was back to 20, my car idled extremely rough. (almost to the point of dying) My friend turned it back to 20 then turned up the idle, which fixed the rough idle. Somewhat.

Now after I drive my car it feels completely different. Car lags when I step on the gas, (think turbo, but I have none). But still has the rough idle, but not as bad. But before my car revved (sp?) quickly, and was fairly quick.

Anybody know what else is wrong? Or is the lag in speed, and the rough idle the norm?
I searched/googled, but didn't find the information pertaining to my situation.

Thanks in advance.

When you set the base timing, did you unplug the TPS?

If not, you set it wrong.
