View Full Version : Rod/Main Bearings?

I have an S13 SR20DET, and plan on doing a slight build before I slap a bigger turbo on, cams, valve springs/retainers, possibly pistons/rods (not sure yet), main/head studs, etc.

I've read it is a good idea to do bearings as well. In searching I read there are different sizes and whatnot? Should they be measured to check engine wear or something before you buy new ones? I found these on ebay - they are available in standard, .25, .50, and .75mm oversized - would I just get standard? I'm just trying to get all the parts together that I can before I even begin to start actually upgrading the engine...

read the FSM... it will answer all your questions on bearing selection as well as what and how to measure what needs to be measured.

that depens on your crankshaft, you should dismount it and check for scratches
than you should check the size and after that you can tell if you need oversize bearings you cant buy it before you cheked it (probally you can but i would be airheaded)

with the bearings I have no idea what I'm getting into to be totally honest. The rest shouldn't be too difficult, but I have 4 mechanics who can help me along...

will it really even be necessary to get new bearings?

how many mechanics does it take to rebuild or chose bearings?? :hammer:

READ THE DAMN FSM!! It will tell you all that you need. Must i say it again?? Measure the crank journals O.D., measure the I.D. of the main galley with the caps torques down properly and using a bore scope, subtract the two numbers and see if its within spec. :mrmeph:
