Hi, uhm evey cold start my 240sx rattles for like 2 seconds and stops. I was searching this forums and most of you guys said that it's the timing chain guide? I went to a local car shop and asked them if they can remove the timing chain guide for me. And what they told me is that the car might not start up again and they need to replace all of the stuff out, which bails me out at almost a grand for labor and parts. What I need to know is that is it safe for a 1990 240SX with a KA24E engine? Would the rattling stop? I can't do it myself since I don't have the tools and time to do it.

And does anyone know where I can find a guide for a KA24E engine to remove the timing chain guide? Thanks. I'd appreciate it. I just bought a new starter kit and my car sounds like a laser charging up when starting (Except for the clang clang part at cold start).

Oh and what are wheel spaces? Do they make your wheel protrude outside? Cuz I'm going to buy a VIII Front bumper and VI side and rear bumpers from version:Select with 20mm Front fenders and it looks like I need my tires to stick out. Thanks for the replies.

first you need to get a new OEM factory nissan timing chain guide, then you need a ka24e timing chain kit. go replace it and STFU:) rattling is gone.

most of the time its loose, so just tighten it...

you say that its the car that rattles... are you sure that its coming from the valve cover? it could also be a heat shield somewhere on the exhaust manifold or around the DP and cat areas

exactly

on DOHC engines only. you have a sohc engine, which makes it a much more serious problem.

Uhm yep, the mechanic said that thing too.
