My friends SR keeps filling the oil catch can at track days. Regular driving, no problem. Redline for 15 minute outings, and it becomes a problem. He constantly has to dump it back into the motor cause it fills up quickly. Greddy oil pan, oil filter relocation kit, B & M oil cooler, bigger turbo, 18 psi..... any ideas?

Check the compression on his motor.

I don't have the Oil cooler installed yet and Im putting in 6. For him 6-7 would be OK, but depends on filter and how long his hoses are.

sounds like plain-ol' blowby. Under normal driving conditions, the cylinder pressures are not nearly as high as when under heavy loads. It is the cyl. pressure that pushes the oil past the piston rings. This is probably why he only gets blowby under high rpms.

Hey im jacking this thread. I'm the guy that is having this problem. I checked compression and everything checks out. The catch can is not being filled from the valve cover but the crankcase breather on the rear of the block. It started when I installed the relocation kit and oil cooler, I checked all the plumbing and it's fine. It takes about 5 1/2 quarts.

IS THAT the amount of oil thats its supposed to take in, 5 1/2 quarts?!?!?!? is that stock capacity? not to thread jack or anything bu im wondering since you mentioned you put in 5 1/2 quarts

Read the thread next time. He has an oil cooler and an oil relocation kit.

No its not stock capacity and yes that is how much oil my motor should take.

stock is 3.58 quarts right. i did read the thread, and im guesing now that you have to put more oil in the car if you have a oil cooler and an oil relocation kit.

i run 5 qts with the same setup. Oil reloc and greddy pan. you said you got it routed with the crank case breather, so its coming from the T off the valve cover then. Lift the valve cover and check the valves, my friends car was doing it due to a bent valve, only diff is his turbo was sucking the oil from the T.

Anybody else ever have a similar problem?

No the oil isnt coming from the T on the valve cover. The oil is coming from the crankcase breather that I have directly routed to my catch can.

I know you said you checked the plumbing, but thats what I would suspect, because it started AFTER you installed the OFRK.

Bump fo' some mothafuckin' info. He's headed down to washington DC for some big event on saturday...10 + hour drive. The car will be tracked as well, then driven home. Anything would be appreciated.

I Think Whats Happening Is The Catch Can Should Be Attached To The Valve Cover T, Not Directly To The Block... One Side Of The T Goes Directly Back To The Crankcase (where If I Understand Right You Are Placing Your Catch Can), While The Other Side Should Go To Your Catch Can And Then Either Vented To Atmoshpere (illegal) Or Rerouted To The Intake.

Bump. Compressions fine. Kit is installed properly. Catch can fills up stupidly fast.

so is you catch can between the valve cover and intake or your valve cover and block?

if its between the valve cover and block its improperly installed.

Stock catch tank is between crankcase breather to the T on valve cover. Not sure if thats the case or not but you have to consider the amount of boost you're pushing will likely cause more blowby. You can try fooling around with the catch tank configuration though.

Thats Not A Catch Tank.... Its A Baffle To Prevent Oil From The Crank Case To Go Up The Ventline Under Pressure/turning.
When You Add A Catch Tank The Point Is To Catch The Oil Between The Valve Cover And Intake Tract. If You Have The Catch Tank Where The Stock Baffle Was You May Getting Pressurized Oil/windage From The Oil Pan Backing Up Into The Tank.

Did you mount the catch-tank above or below the vavle-cover? Mount it as high as possiable, it should help or fix your problem.
