just curious to what everyone thought would be a good cam upgrade to go with the gt2871r and other supporting mods on sr???? im trying to decide what duration/lift would be the most power supportive for my current turbo set up

Im not getting to much response here huh haha, well maybe if I post what ive found so far someone with more knowledge on the topic can chim in.

HKS and Tomei both make excellent cams for your SR. HKS step 1 cams are designed to work with stock valve springs and are a direct drop in. the 264 step 1's are the most common upgrade. the 264's really help flow between 5000 and 7000 RPM. as with all cams (regardless of what tomei says) adjustable cam sprockets help alot. make sure to get the slide style ones that HKS/Greddy/Tomei offer. some other brands just have different key holes on the sprocket that offer only 2 to 2.5 degree changes. changes as much as 0.5 degree can make a huge difference. we found on my car with the 264 Step 1's that only 1-.15 deg of change was necessary. but the gains from those changes were as much as 35 ft-lbs of TQ at 5000 rpm. It was truly incredible!!

what exactly makes the a diffrence between the stage 1 and stage 2 cams if the duration is still 264? is the lift just more aggressive with the stage 2? if thats the case there should most likley be a larger increase in gains in the cams power band correct???? are the intake/exhaust profiles usually the same or would there be any advantage to running say 264 intake 272 exhaust (any duration really that was just for argumentive sake)???

HKS Step 1 intake camshaft comes in 256 (S14/S15 SR) or 264 (S13 SR) degrees with 10.5mm

HKS step 2 are available in a 264 or a 272 they use 11.5 or 12.0 lift and due to that a more agressive ramp is used

tomei use different lift and duration on all of thier cams
256 11.5
260 12.0
270 12.5

the higher the lift farther open the valves are therefore they allow more air to enter/exit

as for which durations I am not sure as i have not been able to test SR cams although some of my friends have seen big gains from 272/272 step2 setups on 4G63 powered cars

thanks for the reply, did your friend experience any power lose at lower rpm with the 272/272 cams???

not really but he was also using a standalone EMS (haltech e6k) and this was on a 2.2 stroker motor with the exception of a rather noticeable lope (not problematic but definately there) at idle there were no real adverse effects but lowend losses may have been made up somewhat in the added displacement of the engine

264's are not nessicarily the way to go. it all depends on your set up. if you are running a mild set up then often times 256's will preform better because of better low end preformance. however, if you intend on going with a larger turbo then the gt28 then go ahead with the 264 or 272's
