hey everyone,
I have been lurking in these forums for sometime now and this is my first post.  I am looking at going turbo w/ a KA and am soon gonna be buying a 89-93 240 (hopefully fastback).  when I do get it i am gonna go turbo and prolly spend about 2gs and do a custom setup and jdm body mods....

anyways....

I wanna know if I should hold out for a DOHC 240, or just take the first good condition one i can find?  I live in AR so I hear there are quite a few 240 owners here and in TN.  well let me know.   I searched high and low for 240 KA+T sites and have only found them for the SOHC.  but everyone seems to be doing 13s on SOHCs so that is just fine with me.  I only wanna do a budget low-boost anyways.    let me know guys!
my last car was a na-Z32 that was show and go but now all i want is boost.

I think that the most important thing is the condition of the motor. Unless you have every intention of building the block. If a simple budget turbo kit is all you are after. Try and find a car with minimal miles, less than 100K if you can. If not make sure that compression tests up to spec.

That alone make a later myear 240 with a DOHC more attractive, to me.

Other factors would be the fact that a DOHC head is a better design. But this is not nearly as important with turbo steups. Especially if your goal is to get into the 13's either motor is more than capible of this.

supposedly the S14 KA's had hypereutetically treated pistons.... and last longer under boost/ handle more boost than the S13 DOHC's.  That would make the S14 the 240sx to get if you want a turbo KA.

hey ace, the theory about the treated pistons in the S14 de engines is been proven not to be true there where posts about it on FA and socal240sx.org a while ago .
Anyways the big deal mainly is to get a low mileage KA period ..
The SOHC heads are actually superior to the DOHC heads flow wise. Due to the fact that the intake and exhaust ports are not siamesed like on the DOHC.
Of course with a forced induction setup that is not as much of an issue. Other than that their are 3 different companies out there that make Turbo setups for the DOHC.
Fmax, Nsport and XSengineering.
Fmax makes them for the S14 and Nsport and XS have them for both cars. S14 and S13.
I own a 91 fastback with 27k its getting a Turbo very soon.

I do not know of any companies making them for the SOHC . You could also do a custom setup yourself for the DOHC because you can purchase the parts seperately. <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'>
