Hey, &nbsp;I was wondering if I would be able to do the SR20 swap myslef (with help of friends) if I had an engine jack and any other tools. &nbsp;I am pretty good at working with cars but I'm by no means a pro. &nbsp;Just curious because I was concidering a VW GTi swap but it would be beyond my skill. &nbsp;Looking to make a super quick RWD car and I can't see any better option &nbsp; <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':D'> &nbsp; &nbsp;Thanx in advance

you also need to make sure you have plenty of back-up money, and time to let the car be down. &nbsp;You never know what you'll break, or find broken when you get into those engines. &nbsp;Remember, they come from Wrecked cars.

I hear the hardest part is wiring the ECU.

I did it in my driveway - with help, which IMO is the only way to do it yourself. &nbsp;If you're asking the question, then you need fairly knowledgable help (they've at least done something related to the engine before). &nbsp;Not saying you're dumb because you're asking or anything...I had to ask that too...and I decided to get help. &nbsp;

There is a tool to make pretty much anything easy. &nbsp;Set aside a lot of money not only for problems encountered, but for tools, nuts, lock washers and bolts (unless you're very type a...then you only need money for tools).

As far as the wiring, send it to heavy throttle. &nbsp;Me and HippoSleek got a day into the wiring and decided that it's way too much work just to get it wrong, which would probably happen...of course, I put in an S14 motor, so there aren't really any wiring diagrams.

GET AN FSM. &nbsp;Phase 2 Motortrend had some last time I checked...200 bucks, but the best 200 bucks I've spent on my car.

It's a pain in the ass. &nbsp;Your hands get raw and cut up. &nbsp;Your clothes get ruined. &nbsp;Your muscles get sore. &nbsp;You smash fingernails. &nbsp;You starve, and get sleep deprived. &nbsp;But its worth it. &nbsp;I now know my car by heart, and I now know how to install an SR20DET. &nbsp;It took two months, though...it should have taken a shorter period of time, but if you're in the same situation as me, never having installed an engine before, then it'll take a helluva long time. &nbsp;When we started, I had the idea I'd be done in a week...roiiight, roiiight...

That was kinda a long way to say this, but it's a pain in the ass...a HUGE pain in the ass...but do it anyway. &nbsp;It'll give you something to be proud of, and me somebody to laugh at.

if you never done a swap with a different engine, then all i have to say is "GOOD LUCK"

these guys may say its easy, but its really not...
unless you send out your harness to srswap.com or anyother place, then you will mess it up big time, no bullshit...

relocating some of the power steering stuff, is a bitch...

if your car is auto, and your gonna swap a 5 speed into it, then you have to weld a support plate onto the frame for the tranny...

i could go on and on...

be prepared with lots 'o' money to do this, unless you get a complete front clip, with "EVERYTHING"...

once again, "GOOD LUCK"

No, it really is easy. and as far as sending out the harness. thats not really necessary. It took me about 30 minutes to switch the pins around. Mine started up the first time. Power steering stuff was easy too, just bought a set of lines from a dohc and bam. another 30 minutes. Mine was an automatic and i had done a five speed swap on it before and i assure you there is no welding involved, the auto and manual transmition cross members bolt up the same. Its really not that bad at all. With the help of my father and one of my freinds i would say i had the old engine out and new one in boldted up in under two hours. The a/c is probably the hardest part.
