Anyone know any alternatives to the Nismo hangers?

I dont think its worth $15 for some rubber blocks with 2 holes in it...

I was thinking of buying a block of poly, but I heard its hard to drill/shape it [which is why its usually cast]...

The reason I want them is cuz my exhaust twerks a lot when i blip the throttle. I watched as my frend opened the throttle, it shook a lot. I figure better hangers would fix it and keep the flow more smooth and efficient...

Squirt poly into the holes in the stock hangars (not mounting holes!). Or.. ebay has poly hangars cheaper (but they aren't solid). They shoudl still be stiffer than stock.

The hose clamps work really good because you can slack up the exhaust a little more than with rubber/poly hangers. Clamps make it very solid and gives you more clearance.

Don't tighten them too much though! You'll be stressing the turbo/elbow etc.

Why would you want slack?

Sorry, I meant to say take up the slack.

The flexpipe sounds like I good idea, I'm going to install one in the DP soon.

You mean you actually put a hose clamp around the exhaust hanger and the hanger on the frame? and then just tighten the clamp as much as you need? won't it slip off? won't it rust away? won't it still shake back and forth since... i'm not sure exactly how the hose clamps would work.

nope doesnt slip
shake back and forth? um..even stock really doesnt do that
hoseclamps arent rocket science.

its elementary my dear boy.

im going to make some custom poly solid hangars. My exhaust on my s13 (apex n1 3") hits the bottom of my driver seat well because it shakes. Its annoying as hell, im gonna fix it sunday probably.

i know pandagarage.com sells some stiff hangers,

but i went the hose clamp way because i'm a cheap bastard.

Do you wrap the hose clamp around the existing rubber hangers? Or around the metal hooks themselves?

you people are fucking retards
why dont you ask your mechanics. so sad.
this isnt rocket science

dude, have you even looked at how your exhaust system is supported?

2JZGTE
04-15-2005, 10:23 PM
Yes very easy.

Just put hoseclamp around stock rubber hanger.

Tighten clamp.

Watch the stock rubber compress.

Enjoy less exhaust movement and more clearance.

2JZGTE, thanks for clarifying. I haven't had any stock hangers in a while, because I've welded up my own exhaust, and my stock hangers already rusted off by then, so I made my own, and weleded them to the chassis where I saw fit, with special rubber compound inbetween the ones on the piping and the ones on the frame. So I haven't looked at stock ones for a while, which made it hard for me to picture.

Dousan_PG and cheez80, I sincerely appreciate your invaluable input.

cool, thnx for the replies ppl! I think ill go with the hose clamps. THers 2 above the muffler, and 1 in the middle, and then thers the sideways bar thing, cant rememer if its just bolted to the bracket, or uses rubber too... wutever, i tnhk 3 clamps would do

Yea, thanks for clarifying 2JZGTE. When I first saw Dousan's post...I thought he used hose clamps without the existing rubber hangers.

I have those "cusco" ones off of eBay too. They rock and @ $10 a pair who cares about price. The hose clamp method works well but this is not a bad option if you want to do it non ghetto fab.

hose clamp really isn't ghetto at all, to me more practical than a stiffer rubber / poly hanger since you can basically 'adjust' the stiffness of the mount

plus having doo doo mounts hose clamped makes it really easy to pull the exhaust off the car

I went to homedepot today hoping they had perhaps a 'block' of polyurethane that i could drill holes in and make my own hangers, but they didn't have any there. Anyone know where to get urethane blocks to make my own hangars?

theicecreamdan

cut out a cube in some styrofoam, fill it with urethane out of a tube, and drill away

hose clamps all the way. people always tell me after driving behind me how little exhaust movment i have.

nissan_driver24

damn hose clamp is a hella good idea, i wish i knew that before.... my exhaust only has one hanger and it shakes alot sometimes.... i rememeber letting my dad drive my car (bad idea) and he couldn't get the clutch right cause he used to his easy driving toy pickup truck... and whenever he stalled it i can hear the tip banging against my tow hook.....

if u're wondering why only one hanger??? here's a pic why.... it custom made by me, cause i wanted to be a lil different then every1 else.... and yes it's loud as hell even with the cat still in place..

good information here. i used hose clamps = solid. However I find there to be a trade off. Before using the hose clamps, my exhaust would bang every which way shake rattle and roll. And after clamping, it's pretty solid. No movement. However the inability to move creates vibrations from the exhaust and seem to be transferring throughout my entire car instead. Mutual feelings anyone?

But I am experiencing a much smoother drive and increase power? as far as acceleration goes at least. A much favorable throttle response.

How do you install them? I can't get it over the studs on the exhuast, they are hard as rocks.

I used zip ties/tie wraps around my exhaust hanger bushing. It made them stiffer. Hose clamps are a good idea.

Reporting back, failed, miserably... wrist injured.

I'm considering cutting/drilling them out some or maybe heating it with a torch... thoughts?
