So I've got one stubborn bolt/nut on my bumper support that just keeps spinning and it's not coming loose no matter what I try, and I'd rather not go through the trouble of sawzall/cutting torch-ing it.

Is it possible to work around the bumper support on the fmic install, or is it totally necessary to remove it?

Your name is S14, but your sig says S13, which are you talking about?

I can't speak for the S14, but on the S13, you cannot keep your bumper support as-is, it must be either modified or removed. If you want to keep it at factory spec, you'll have to adjust the depth of the FMIC and have custom piping made.

So the bumper support does not have to be reinstalled though? I can just put the bumper back on without the support behind it? It's basically protection for little fender benders, right?

bumper support = 5mph impact law stuff, correct.
in another thread someone had a S14 JDM FSM that showed how the JDM version of the S14 doesn't even have a bumper support.... HOWEVER, that's not to say that it's okay to just yank it... very little of the support has to be cut away really, it'll just take about 30mins of guess and check to custom fit it. Cut out only what you need to fit and you'll be just fine, you'll just have to jump right in with the sawzall, there's no other way to really do it unless someone has a ready-made template, but i highly doubt that.

Good luck!

PS. should you decide to go without the support, please consider selling it to me :) Now that I have the s15 front, I want to redo the support to better suit my new fascia.

As long as this thing doesn't provide any sort of support to the plastic bumper itself, then yes, it's for sale.

Nope, nothing for the bumper, the bumper is actually a decent PITA to get off on it's own... a ton of bolts hold that sucker on, it's STRONG.

anyways, I'll PM u on buyin the support :)

^^ Thats whats holding me up. That nut is supposed to be spot welded to the frame rail, but since theres a lot of rust in that one spot (nowhere else anywhere near it though), the welds are worthless now and that nut is sitting on the bolt cocked to one side, like it's locked itself on there. Time for the Porter Cable to come out!

Looks like everything worked out! After one of the mounting tab bolts broke in half also, that took about an hour to drill out and re-tap. I'm pretty proud though!

It still needs quite a bit of trimming.

I measured the bumper material that I had left over after the rough trimming, because I had no idea how much to leave and how much to take off.

I hope somebody can use some of this information. Anyway, thats my half assed attempt at a writeup.
