I just purchased a s14 with a sr20det and i'm in the middle of fixing some of the problems that came with the car along with a tune up. The one problem i seem to be having is that i THINK i have a boost leak. My reasoning is that i'm only getting 16-18 in.hg vaccum at idle and i'm only reaching 5 lbs of boost. I've read that your vacuum at idle should be 20 and stock boost is 7 lbs. Also, whenever i boost and hit 5 lbs, it starts to slowly drop again. Now i could understand if i was boosting 18lbs and out of the efficieny range of the turbo, , but i dont expect the boost to drop off at 5 lbs.

Anyways, if this does sound like a boost leak, where are the most likely spots? I checked the car earlier today and couldnt find any leaks but i guess i didnt look hard enough. Is there any easy way to check for leaks? If this doesnt sound like a boost leak, what else do you think could cause this problem. Thanks!

If it hits 5lbs and it drops, that's most likely a boost leak. Tighten all your intercooler connections, check your BOV, and tighten all bolts that hold the turbo in place, also the manifold.

to check for vacuum leaks, use a mild mixtures of soap water, put a coating on your joints and look for bubbles :)

the only coating you're supposed to put on your joints is white girl

He meant the couplings...run the car, put soapy water on your couplings and see where it would bubble out. Simple Green also works, plus itll clean your pipes when your done. =p
