I'm pretty sure I have everything done so far for the swap. I'm swapping in a 89-91 early year redtop into my 97 240sx. First I swapped the Smaller black plug on my KA water temp sensor onto my sr water temp sensor. Then I swapped the 97 KA tranny speed sensor(with the red gear at the end) onto my sr20det tranny. A guy that lives near me who did the swap onto his s13 said that theres no need ot swap the sensors. As long as the sr speed sensor has a red gear at the end, it should work? Actually, he didnt even swap the temp sensor as well. could this be a redtop to s13 deal? My entire harness is done. Got the z32 fuel filter. There anything else I needa change? Thanks.

no. the KPS13(Silvia) had an sr20 starting in 90 so you might have a 90.

Dont listen to that guy. You did right by swapping your KA speed sensor on there.

Sad to see an SR in a 240 period, especially an ancient ass redtop that's undoubtedly more beaten that the pristine KA that's coming out. At least it's going into a ghey looking Kouki S14. If it was a Zenki I'd be offended.

the ka had over 160k miles on it. When i bought the car it had an oil leak by the oil pan. Motor never really ran right since then. I kinda like the redtop/s14 hybrids. Used to have a zenki, cousin totalled it =\.Next on my list...install the hlsd with its halfshafts. Can't wait.

why do you like it?
hmm a lesss powerful, OLD motor (beeing sitting a car since 91 or a junkyard) stock motor with shitty lowend compared w/ a s14 motor, newer, bb turbine motor with good low end can make more power off the stock turbin and setup then a redtop

oh shit your right, redtop rules!

hlsd sucks haha
enjoy crap!

id rock the KA too with your choices. never a redtop.

If a motor has been taken care of then there is no problem. Most people think that just because the motor is older then it is a big piece of shit with 40 compression on each cylinder and whatever. I love seeing people spend all of this money on newer motors just to find out that the person that drove them in Japan absolutely beat the shit out of them. I have an S14 with a Redtop and I actually chose that over something newer because:
A) It was shitload cheaper
B) It was very well maintained and in above average working order
C) I think that the difference in the S13/S14 does'nt warrant me to spend an assload more especially since I think VTC is queer and the T28 is still just a stock turbo either way around it.

that is true for any motor, KA or SR
depends on the motor.

my s14 kouki motor was dirt cheap 100% stock for the clip, driven nice and totally stock, perfect shape in everyway

vtc, you dont understand til you drive it.

s14 bb turbo t28 cant compare w/ the POS t25

on a stock motor i can make more power then you w/ minor upgrades
the motor is absolutely wonderful on daily driving, track driving and just all around

just because you cant afford it and never tried it doesnt mean its not worth
ive driven both motors and drifted both

s14 is far nicer then s13 espeically stock for stock.

upgrades less money spent on the s14 motor for more power

Stock shmock everyone knows the s13 sr is the one to get if youre gonna heavily mod it.

When I went to make my engine choice, I had about 6k to spend so don't tell me what I can and cannot afford.
Part of the reason that I wanted what I have is because I knew that I would want to upgrade the a lot of things on the engine over time (headwork, cams, some sort of T3 turbo yada yada yada).
Please dont start talking about the t25 vs t28 crap since I have had both on my car and both are pretty worthless...

1) 97silvia if your going to heavily mod it yes s13 would (might) be the way to go, but you can do same w/ s14 sr and make a lot of power, its not that much more then s13 for a clip. maybe another grand if that

tokyo nights
the people who do these 'heavy upgrades' are mostly dreamers.
most people wont ever make over 300-350 hp.

With 6g's you could of easily rebuilt a reliable ka-t w/ more than 350hp. IMO

well ive driven both the s14 sr and s13 sr. reason why i got the redtop was because it was mainly cheaper, i'm not gonna spend another grand on an engine with t28bb and jut a lil more lowend. when i got the motorset, it was pristine. I even took my time and replaced all gaskets, orings, valve seals, seals. milled both decks and put a cometic hg on it. I know iits an older motor but since i was doing a mild rebuild, i just got the redtop. I hate all this s14 sr is better than s13 sr crap, they both are sr20dets! one is cheaper period... So basically the small difference to me wasn't enuff for me to spend another grand. To remind you, my ka was going to shit so i opted for an sr20det.

Well I didnt actually spend all of the money on my engine lol. After I bought my redtop clip, I saved most of the cash and spent some of it on other car related stuff.
