Ok since I'll be moving out to california, i'll probably be doing about 2-3x as much driving as I usually do. I'm looking for a good MP3 car CD player that displays ID-3 tags, and will randomly play songs between all folders...not just one folder.
I want to spend around $500 or less.

Anyone know of a good one?

I have the new Rockford one the 9300 i got it off of ebay for about 300 or you can try CBRSTEREO.COM they have good prices, but the mp3 player is really good, you can also get the rockfor mp3 changer with it for like 150, i've had mine since December

at circuit city they had a cheap Jensen unit that plays Mp3's.... not sure about its value since I'm not one for Jensen quality..... I was planning on one of the Kenwood players myself.

i have the JVC, bought it at mmxpress.com. $299, however, it does not play songs randomly from each folder, i think you'd have to put them into one big folder, which would be annoying. but check it out.

BAH!
I've listened to the sound from about 2/3rds of the players listed here, and I dont think any of them hold a candle to my Kenwood... I think mine has been replaced by this model as of last week:
KDC-X859

yeah.... the Kenwood is appealing... just saw some of the new models out actually

I was just browsing Ebay... and there's stuff like mp3/cd/dvd players that hook up to small screens.... those run less than $200... the screens run for like $150... so for $350 you could have pretty much a mini-entertainment center in your car. I might have to look into that (mostly just for the kicks of it... hide the cd/mp3/dvd unit in the glove and have the screen fill the blank where the stereo goes... it'll look like there's no stereo... nifty antitheft!

Alpine will be coming out with their CDA-7894 & $450 SRP you should be able to find it for $300 no problem when it hits eBay (if it already hasn't) Then you can have a real quality deck!! Although Kenwood's music keg is super hot!! That's the coolest thing to hit car audio in at least a couple years!! You can just bet on spending $800 SRP & probably about $750 at stores... you wont be finding it cheaper than $500 on eBay either!! All good choices!

I bought the Blaupunkt MP3000 for only $200, and its better than that Aiwa or Jensen crap.

Hey could you email me at [email protected] and tell me about it? I'm thinking about maybe buying it before I goto california. I want to know all the awesome little things that it does and why it rules, and what things might make it suck.

thanks,
chance

p.s. or you could just post thhem here.

Isn't the Kenwood like twice the money of the other ones? I know that Blauplunkt makes one that is always up on ebay, sony's is supposed to be pretty good, but not great, I have heard the Rockford is good too... but yes the Kenwood is always the best, except I HATE all the small buttons, makes them so much harder to use, you have to pull over, or memorize the whole thing to play with it while you drive.

Hmm... well my kenwood, dammit I can't remember the model # off the top of my head argh!

-Plays random music in random folders etc etc etc
-pretty powerful stock outs (tho I don't use them, cuz deck power is 4 suckers)
-I dig the changing the backlighting of the buttons themselves as either red or green (Ricey, but hey, I like it)
-The D-Mask thing was integral for me buying the deck
-sound quality was superb (tho that's prolly more about the mp3 quality, and my amp/driver setup heehee)
-decent warranty (3 years I believe)
-pretty well thought out controll scheme and button placement compared to other decks I've seen, mp3 and otherwise
-I've never had a prob w/it. some people say that their mp3 players skip once in a while (I think that was mostly the JVC and rockford decks)... I've screwed a drift and hopped a curb and my player never so much as flinched).

There u have it, there's more I'm sure, but that's what I can think of off the top of my head, hope it helps! I'm by far not a kenwood whore, but I think my deck 0wnz

Just installed a Pioneer DEH-P7400MP ($235), and I love it!

The blue organic display looks like a mini-tv, and changes from VU meters, Equalizer levels, balance, to race car & dolphin shows, etc. Impresses the girls with the visuals, and the guys with the sound. I drive over potholes (in NYC), with no skips from the CD.

22w RMS, 50w max /channel
equalizer, loudness, SFEQ (3-D -like effect), remote, RCA subwoofer out, high pass filters, etc

There are too many features on this deck, that you'll spend easily 3-4 hours playing with all the controls. But since you asked about the MP3 functions, here goes:

*Repeat - track, folder, disc.
*Random - folder, disc.
*Scan - folder, disc.
*Pause
*Audio fast forward on MP3 track
*Display folder name, filename, track title, artist name, bit rate by continuing to press one button. If text info is longer than 16 characters, press and hold same button to scroll.

But whatever you head unit you get, make sure you spend at least as much on your speaks! No use buying a $400 stereo to feed clean output to crappy factory speakers!

Whatever you do, *DONT* get an Aiwa CDC-MP3 deck I bought one when they came out, and it's a piece of shit.
