If I want to do the 5 lug swap for my 97 S14, for the front, can I put on a 96 SE front spindle instead of 97/98 ? Is there a different between S14a and S14b SE front spindle.

Please help.

AFAIK... the S14 spindles are the same.  Both came with the same 5-lug options, so I'm pretty (99%) sure it'll be fine.
