Metal Head Gasket

I am about to replace my blown metal head gasket with another metaql head gasket. I followed all the FSM directions including the one saying that there should be liquid gasket accompanying the head gasket while you install the part. Is this true with the metal head gasket?

i don't recall the FSM saying to put liquid gasket on the head gasket. are you sure about that?
