I've recently learned that in order to remove your speed governor all you need to do is cut the yellow wire from your wire harness....now i'm about to do this but i want to know if anyone else has done this. I've heard that all it does is remove your speed governor but if so why hasn't everybody done this ? Is there any problems associated with cutting this yellow wire? I can't stand this speed governor and i can't see why everyone doesn't feel the same !?

here is an idea: cut it and it it screws any thing up ....put it back and hope that fixes it!

I cut it- no sweat. On the 8th pin on the ECU from the right. Yellow wire with green stripe and silver dots. Kills the info. from the car to the ECU but the dash still works. (HUD)

Good Luck!

p.s. DISCONNECT BOTH TERMINALS AT THE BATTERY BEFORE STARTING THIS JOB OR YOU'LL BE SORRY!!

I cut mine and it's still governed by a low rev-limiter in 4th and 5th. When you hit 6200 in 4th and 5100 in 5th, it's just like hitting 7000 in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd...the engine just goes "wa-wa-wa-wa-wa". I believe you have to disconnect the 4th/5th gear speed sensors in the tranny to fix this...but I haven't gotten around to trying it yet.

Well I've heard that it triggers a check engine light, anybody look into this issue?

ive allready gone to 240+ kmh i didnt cut anything everything was stock, it seems i dont have a speed limiter or sumthing,
maybe its because my car is an automatic.

I was driving my car around last night and reached speeds of 116 and 117 mph. I kept expecting the gov. to kick in, but it never did. Does anybody know when it kicks in on a 97 240sx se?

Automatics did NOT come with Speed limiters. ONLY rev limiters

Yea my car went over 135 with no governer kicking in. My friends S14 hit 120 with no problems from a limiter.

the S14 has a fuel cut a bit after 120. The S13 cuts at 113. I did the wire cut in my 1992, and had no problems afterwards. I've never heard of anyone trying it with an S14, which is why I haven't done it yet, although I'd like to, since a fuel cut under boost could mean a blown engine......

search the forums for "yellow wire with green stripe" should bring up my post from a couple months ago. I gave pretty specific details on it. Ur check engine light is goin to come on cause the ECU can't read the speedometer nemore no biggy. Beware there r 2 yellow wire's with green stripes believe me i have already been the guinea pig. One has a single silver dot every inch or so and the one u need to cut has 2 silver dots ever inch or so. That should kill ur speed limiter at 118mph then just unplug the electrical 5th gear connection on the side of the tranny (its a rev limiter that limits u in 5th gear at about 5500rpm or 125mph). Then the sky's the limit ... i think my top speed is about 140mph. This is for an S14 i would think it would be about the same for an S13 but not making ne promises.

See, that's weird 240booster- I didn't have that wire setup on my S13. I had two wires, one from the instrument cluster (I think that's the one you cut first) and one from the ecu (8th pin from right on ecu) which is the one I cut. My point is, I don't have a problem with codes or lights, and I didn't have the two-silver-dot-yellow-wire either...BOTH looked exactly the same, just looking closer showed me that one came from the dash, and one comes from ecu...
What's up with that??

When I did the cut in my S13 there was no check engine light either.... I'm not willing to try it in my S14 if the check engine light is going to show (I hate warning lights when there's no warning)... so I guess I'm stuck waiting for a JWT ecu....

Well, I just cut my wire yesterday and the check engine light came on. The reason why some of you did not get the check engine light is probably because your ecus are not from california ECUs. California has to pass special emissions which force the code There's just one strange thing, after i cut my wire when i slow down to a stop my revs go all the way down like i'm about to stall. They jump around between 200-400 rpms until they slowly crawl back to the normal 700. This has gotten me a little worried and i'm trying to figure a way to fix it. OH yeah and 240 booster, where is the wire on the tranny to unplug so i can pass up that rev limiter. Any negative side effects from unplugging it ?
