i know that the KA and SR alts are swapable, but does anyone know if this also applies to the RB? i am going to be ordering a custom alt for my 240 and i want to make sure it will fit the RB when i do the swap.

thanks

If you have the 26, take a look at a 300zxtt alt, since the tranny’s interchangeable bellhousing/tranny. PS, In stead of buying a rb25 tranny, Buy a 300zxtt tranny, Put the 26's bell housing on it, and you get a stronger tranny then the 25 for half the price.

Maybe if you'd bothered to read his post, you'd have caught this:

While not in the most easy to read structure, his meaning is very clear - since the RB25's tranny is interchangable with Z32TT, maybe alternators would be interchangable too.

Quit your whining and read. Oh wait.. You'll probably skip this post too.. nevermind.

i didn't skip that, but the tranny and alternator have nothing to do with eachother. i want a straight forword answer, not oh well maybe it will fit since the bellhousings swap. although that was a good tidbit to keep in mind.

you need to calm down, i may be a noob on this forum but i'm not new to building cars.

:D
This is calm for me. Good for you for having experience with building cars. What you evidently don't have experience with is Nissan's propensity for sharing parts between motors/chassis. Sure, there's no guarantee a Z32 alternator will work, but given that some VG30 parts and some RB parts are interchangable, there's at least a chance that they may swap. Don't bag on TheSnail for his trying to help.

well, the thing is i already have a KA24 alt ordered and i need to know if that one will work, or could be made to work swapping brackets and whatnot. if not there is still a chance that i could get it changed to say a VG30 alt if i knew for SURE that it would work. i have like a week to play with here before it it built and shipped.

So you ordered the Alt before you even knew if it would work...sounds like a plan!!!!

In any case, if you are putting an RB26 in your car, you don't have the $ to really do the swap if you are worrying about $100 parts.

actually it's a custom 180 amp alt and it's $320. it's a long story, i had one on my other car which died, and i was going to trade it back in for a new one and then since the car is also ooc i don't need that one, so i told the place to make me a 240 alt since i had just bought it, and i just assumed that they were swappable. but now as i am looking more into doing the swap i want to be sure it is. otherwise i will have to send it back and wait a couple more months for him to make me another one.

why would you need an alternator like that? to power some big show-winning sound system?

yeah pretty much

well then. Now it all makes sense, no wonder why you want an RB26. It's the "most JDM" of all the engines commonly put in 240's. hopefully the car wont' be as useless as all the show cars I've seen, but more likely than not it will...... oh wells, it's your car.

yeah it's going to be very driveable, not just a trailor queen like most are. it won't be my daily though ofcourse, but it's not going to be a useless heap that looks nice. that would be a waste. i'm actually leaning more towards the RB25 now, since it costs a lot less and i'll still build it up way and beyond that of a 26 anyhow.
