View Full Version : S14 SR suddenly won't idle...

Everything was fine until a few days ago. I just installed my fmic and drove around for a day without any problems. The next morning, the car would barely start and had a very rough idle. I assumed it was a vacuum leak due to the newly installed fmic, but everything tested ok with this : http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

The spark plugs are covered in black soot telling me that it is running rich.
Any suggestions?

Jon

check the EGR valve it may be stuck open. If it is thats why you have the black plugs and the rough idle.

Yes, and there were no vacuum leaks since the pressure tester would have found them. Is there a way to test for a defective MAF sensor?

I'd like to know also, because I am having the same issue with my s14 sr. But mine only happens when it's cold then goes away after 15-20 mins.

sounds like a giant boost leak.. the maf sees x amount of air. and some of that air is escaping somewhere, and the car is tring to give enough fuel to counteract x, but it runs rich now cause its missin the air from y..

you have a boost leak

for some reason the s14 SRs hate cold starts..mine runs like shit until it warms up..i have not been able to find why it does it though

same here... mine runs like crap for like 15min then idles normally.

I rechecked all my hoses.. but the problem is still occuring.. could it be the o2 sensor?
