ok, i know this pic isnt the best, but my friend didnt want to take it out of the pumpkin. can anyone ID this diff just by the pic? looks like a 1 way clutch type lsd, but there are no other markings on it. it came off of a junked S13 with lots of nismo suspension parts. i dont know what a open or viscous diff look like close up. sorry in advance for the stupid question :duh:

Ain't no open diff or vlsd... definitely aftermarket. It probably is a Nismo.

Augh. I'm such an asshole.
Yes, it's not open or VLSD. It's definitely aftermarket.
That said, there's not really any good way to determine type or maunfacturer without disassembling the unit or driving it.

How would flying over the differential and photographing it help you understand what type it is?

This may be just as stupid though, Is that thing in the hole something that can be turned? I remember seeing a Nismo one that something can be changed by turning a "cam" or something.

i may have a low post count in here, but ive trolled around enough to know your reputation, so i didnt get butt-hurt or anything :D

ill tear it the rest of the way apart and see if theres any other marks on friday or sat. i just wanted some opinions before i took the time to rip my open diff out. thanks for the replies.

about the nismo thing.....it doesnt look like it can be turned, but i have seen that about nismo diffs being adjustible without tearing them apart. ill know when i get it out of the pumpkin.

I think it may be that one diff that was made for that one car by that one company. Or i could be wrong. OMG

take it apart and count the plates that is a very large disquishing* factor. and if it has springs or cones.

leave it together and as long as it works who cares what brand it is....when it shells out buy new one.

Take a shot facing the output shaft opposite the ring gear. Overhead from the shots you have.

thanks for the input guys, i know it was a bit of a vague question, with not enough info. it was a shot in the dark. i was just a bit worried about buying a LSD with no idea what it was, but the price was right. if it makes any difference, i cleaned it really well, and it had nismo written in marker near the cover bolts.

i agree, and i didnt feel like taking it out of the pupkin, so i threw it in yesterday. all the stuff you read just doesnt prepare you for the sounds and feel of a aftermarket dif making slow turns. i had to have 2 friends drive with me before i believed it was suppose to feel like that :p

Its definetly a 1-way clutch type... you can tell by the triangular notches. No idea who would make such a thing though.
