I bought a 93 240sx off of a kid for $500. I'm in the process of de-ricing it. He told me he had replaced the engine but didn't tell me with what year. When I buy parts I've been getting them for a 93 which has worked great until I went to buy the cap and rotor. I ordered them for a 93 and when I got home they where not even close to being correct. So I called them (AutoZone) and they told me 91, 92, 93, 94, ect all have different part numbers. So my question is who can I ID what year motor is in the car. All I know is that it is the DOHC. Thanks Guys!!

Great, I already did a search before I posted and came up with nothing. Did it again and still nothing. What am I supposed to search under?

hmm. I'll grant you this one. It's too broad a subject for search.
Real quicklike -
1989-1990 240sx had KA24E, SOHC 12 valve 2.4 Liter
1991-1994 240sx had KA24DE, DOHC 16 valve 2.4 Liter
1995-1998 240sx had KA24DE (same as '91-'94) but no longer had external coil.

Any part for '91-'94 240sx will work on your car ASSUMING it has a '91-93 motor. Take a picture of the motor and post it, I can tell you what year you have. Please insure it's a high resolution picture (at LEAST 1600x1200 and not grainy)

I will get a picture as soon as I get out of work, shouldn't be a problem. Ghettokracker, I'm sorry I failed to mention the kid is an idiot and doesn't know. Thanks guys!

Oh no thats cool man, no problems here. Basically I was wondering if Japanese cars can be decoded like American cars with numbers off the block or whatever. I really never seen any numbers but I don't even know where to start to look.
