####! That makes me change my plans almost. supercharging is #### sweet, why are there no kits out there (as far as i know). does anyone know of a downside to doing a supercharger in place of the usual turbo, because from what i have read it seems to be the way to go. and does anyone have a clue about the cost?

Basically a supercharger does the same job a turbo does, just is powered different. It uses the belt to spool rather than exhaust gas, essentially eliminating lag. I don't think it'll give you the same top end, though (correct me if I'm wrong here). No clue pricewise, I haven't seen any kits out for the 240sx

thats a sweet setup! My opinion on a SC vs. a Turbo is that the SC is more usable in daily situations and is far more reliable than a Turbo. No turbo lag, great power, but I dont think they have as much high end potential, nor have i ever seen an SC on a 4cyl approaching the top numbers of a turbo

well for hondas at least...

superchargers dont have the topend hp of a turbo but it makes up for this loss through out the powerband. superchargers require almost no maintenence from opposed to turbos. turbos on the otherhand are much eaisier to get hp out of. an ic and bc can lots of power very quickly. but for the same amount of money you just have to decide if you like the scream of a supercharger or the whirl and pssssssss of the turbo and bov.

That car is awesome, I love the SC setup, and it's fast as #### too, wonder what happened to it cuz the last entry was like in 98

Unstable-hybrids is trying to mate a Eaton Roots S/C from a Pontiac Grand Prix to the 12V KA. If they can pull it off at a reasonable price and extend the project to the 16V, maybe us 240 owners will have another option in the realm of FI in the future.

what im wondeing is hp much of a hp drain the SC is on the SR. if it was a KA with the high torq i can see it but the sr is not as tourqy off the line and any other belts run off the crack or where every on the motor is a HP drain. where as a turbo can be kinda looked at as a drain free hp modd. lag is only realtive to the housing and wheel combos u have in it, a NO2 spool kit can solve that problem. and the larger the exhuast turbo houseing the more tourq u loose from the lack of backpressure. blah blah blah. i'll shut up now. i know u'll don't want me to babble all day.

you can get a bov on an SC too! so you dont have to sacrifice that.
Its true that you can have almost lag free turbos, but only a few cars have them, like the 911 turbo I've heard barely has any lag, and same with the old Bugatti EB110 quad turbo

don't remember where i saw it, but i came across a guy who was selling a sc kit for the 240sx for 1700. he claimed 270hp. dont know if that was at the crank or the wheels. probably the crank. Gotta find that link....

a bov is a bov is a bov.

I saw a guy with a "supercharged" sticker on his 240, but no evidence of a supercharger under the hood. I never heard of one being manufactured for our car. I'd prefer a supercharger to a turbocharger, definitely. (I'm sure this post made a difference ).

Positive Displacement superchargers will give alot of low end but not much high end, but a centrifugal supercharger will give good high end and not a lot of low end but requires a ton of torque to turn.

For a super charger with a bov check out some of these videos:

This is a 240Z with a vortech supercharged and intercooled LT1.

Supercharger wastes alot more gas than a turbo though. (That is, if you arent hitting it all the time.)

Turbos rock btw.
