recently purchased a s14 car goes into gear drive shaft spins, but rear wheels don't move. the rear end sounds like marbles rattling around in a soda can. I've looked through the wheel spoke and can see the axles spin in neutral, is this normal? any help appreciated.

The axels spin in neutral? Is the car on a lift???

It sounds like the ring gear has sheared teeth. Drop the diff out and drain the fluid, then pull the cover and inspect. Take photos, then go beat the dude who sold you a car with a blown diff.

chop the complete rear end of the car.
buy a front end damaged car, chop the rear end off that one.
now weld the rear end onto your car and you'll be good to go.

I'm 99% sure just needs a new diff, and one axle, and theres no damage under the over fenders lol, previous owner installed them for looks

Just the diff. Get a stock open diff and enjoy the car

I know the diff is shot, but was checking for opinions, and weather hasn't allowed me to pull diff cover!

This is where you lost me.... unless the axle splines that mate the wheel hub are all stripped "Highly Unlikely"

and any update on pics on how the inside of that diff look like??

i wanna see the rattle can noise.

and thats not an authentic bride. i should know i saw them everyday at an aftermarket shop.

I'm gonna try and tear it apart today I have a military schedule so I haven't had too much free time and pm me your email so I can record a vid for you with the rattle can sound.

Driver Rear axle completely destroyed, diff looked good and the rattle can noise was the cv axle. Should passenger wheel engage while in gear on jack stands because mine does not and its open diff by the way

ahh got ya* and thats good atleast an axle is much easyer to replace and wouldnt weigh 80lbs like a diff, pluss it would come with a lifetime waranty if purchased at a local autoparts dealer ~60 bux around so.

and no thats normal with the vehicle jacked up on an open diff in gear to only get power to one wheel. the passenger wheel would bearly get any power to turn if that!

Yea open sucks lol, now I get what you meant by the car on the ground and no power lol. Yep simple axle swap. Diff change isnt hard either so change the fluids while your there .

Thanks for the help guy swapped axles around 4 hrs ago. She's alive and well, first drive was amazing, at least until I realized the clutch is slipping lol! Easy fix, she'll be 100% by the next month, just wondering if an RB25 clutch setup will bolt directly to the ka24de? Thank in advance guys and the help was much appreciated.
