So I am rebuilding an engine harness. I have always went the route of splicing sections of oem shielded wiring into my harness. I am wondering if anyone has a source for single conductor shielded wire?

Another alternative I have been thinking about is this....

In school I learned that you can twist signal wire with signal return wire and that would cancel any signal being induced into the wire, hence shielding the wire. Would that be sufficient in place of the oem shielding(tps, cas, and maf on sr20det) I have also thought of taking that one step further and wrapping a third wire(around the signal and return), and then grounding one end of that ground near the ecu, leaving the end at sensor connector open. does anyone see anything wrong with this as an alternative to the oem shielding?

thanks in advance.

Shielded wire is not necessarily twisted pair, and they don't do the same thing.

I got some MS (mil-spec) shielded wire for my AEM Infinity harness. It's very compact, with a tight teflon covering on it. It wasn't that expensive to buy 20-30 ft at a time.

Where did you source it?

Search terms like "24 awg shielded" on eBay.

I've done a lot of wiring harnesses for these cars and tried a lot of this on my personal VH45 car to see if it made any difference, I haven't found it to do anything in the slightest 99% of the time. Quit messing with it because it wasn't worth the bother. However on my SR car, I raced an old late 60s muscle car (rather close in proximity) with a hot magneto, and it made my car log some crazy stuff on the AEM. Traces going berzerk, signals went crazy. Raced from 2 car widths away, nothing. So there may be something to this in extreme cases or military applications.

single conductor, shielded and high temp resistance wire can be bought from here:

I got some for my knock sensor rewiring and it's good stuff.

Jsimpson....yeah I have often wondered why they chose to use shielded wire, most cars I work on don't use any shielding.

240sxfan...thanks for the site I found just what I need without needing to purchase 100 feet.

You're welcome! Btw they sell it at .40 cents a foot and you can order whatever length you wish (for any future reference).
