Yep, Did the stupid thing: hit a curb.

Bent the tie rod. Now, I could just replace the one side with OEM.

But, what are my options? I have a recommendation for TEIN tie rods and ends ($150 for the pair). What do you guys recommend? Should I do anything else while I am there (remembering I am on a tight budget)?

if you're on tight budget, replace with stock ones, cheap, if you want cheaper, get used ones, look in classifieds or junkyards

Battle Version and SPL Parts dont make tie rods yet..

Tein- inner/outer
Kazama- outer
Ikeya Formula- outer
Moog-inner/outer
JIC- inner/outer
Uras-Inner

those are the ones i know of right now that makes them...
all parts are interchangeable if u have S14...if u have S13 u need S13 inner and can also use S14 (Kazama) or S13 outer tie rods.....

Just go for whatever they have at your favorite local auto parts store if performance doesn't matter so much. Then again, you drove it too hard and hit a curb....

I would step up and buy something like tein or moog. I hear stock tie rods will break from just driving hard. I haven't checked, but I think my tie rod is busted and I haven't hit anything. just touge runs...what are the symptoms of a busted tie rod anyway? I'm hearing a lot of "popping" noises coming from my front end. Also, when I brake my car auto steers to the left...........

popping noises, most likely your t/c rod, tension rod
tie rods usually go bad (outer, not the inner ones unless some mad drift or curb hops), with ooze, rubber cracking...

If the actual tie rod was broken your car would be undriveable....

ic...well, i hope its not my tension rod cause I now have kazama pillow ball t/c rods. I heard of those things busting but that would really suck if they broke that easily. The tie rod was just kind of a guess cause i dont really know what could be the problem.. haven't got around to climbing under there to check thigns out.

If i was on a budget i would get some junkyard ones and just make sure its in good shape. If i had the money i would buy the tein tie rods that are on ebay. I had them on my car and the car felt more stable. You can also get aftermarket tie rods for liek $90 bucks.

hmm, what i meant about poppin noise being t/c rod, that's for stock bushings, not pillowball upgrades, i don't know of anyone who has broken pillowball t/c rods...

easiest way to check if your outer tie rod end is busted is to take the wheel out and turn the steering wheel all the way... sure you can do without taking the wheel out but you'll get much more room to see... i'm assuming you don't have pillowball tie rod ends either...

Another thing that can make a poping sound it the upper mounts for the shocks. They are commonly replaced by pillow ball mounts.

breaking things is always an excuse to upgrade, I can't wait till my motor goes.......jk, but I'd upgrade if you can, screw the stock parts.

I'm going to put in my order for some TEIN tie rods.

Is there anything else worthwhile that I should replace while I'm down there?

make sure to check your sway bar bushings as well hitting a curb can sometimes pop the brackets off.

look at the rack and pinion boots, if they are cracked its a good idea to change them. when you put the tie rods in dont forget to use locktight or any kind of thread locker that has a permanent rating. the tie rods are going to come with a small/thick washer that replaces the thin lock washe in the stock setup, and it will give you 5* in turning radius.
