I'm getting a 1991 240SX tommorow that needs a head gasket replaement. What else should I replace since the top end is off and the engine more accessible. I'm thinking water pump and upper and lower timing chain (don't know now since its chain and doesn't really wear and because it sounds difficult). What else should I replace since the engine has 169k and I don't know how the owner took care of her.

Also, do I have to get the engine to TDC when taking off the head?

funny I just read a thread about two days ago asking the SAME thing.
Edit: I just found that thread and it was useless, my bad, Gaskets are very cheap and always a good idea, you could do water pump later not that hard while in car from what I recall but we had the shroud and radiator out so maybe good idea to do while its out of the car, I think it is liquid gasket though, but the others sound like a good idea to change. I never really hear of many other difficult gaskets going, so your probably safe if you dont want to do any more.
