i need to get the engine out of my 90 to replace it. i have removed the engine from my 91, but i removed the trans. first, also auto. iirc, it seemed you had to take the trany out before the engine could come out because of how the torque converter was bolted on.

Does the auto trans. have to be removed from the engine before the engine can come out?? :sadwavey:

dude, I did the same thing as you and had it all unbolted and then had to bolt the tranny back on and remove it as a whole. just put a few bolts back on to secure it and then remove as one. at least thats how i did it.

no i dont see why it would have to be, just make sure you take everything that connects to the tranny first except the case bolts and you should be good.

no, i want to remove just the engine and leave the trans. on the car. i just want to replace the engine. is this possible or does the trans. have to come out too?

well the engine would have to be lifted off of the motor mount studs and then moved towards the bumper i believe as to clear the hump. in the manual i am pretty sure that you must remove it as one unit though.

when i took the 24e and auto trans out of my 240 we just pulled the whole engine trans as one piece

I dont see why you couldnt pull just the motor, but it will be easier to put the motor and trans back in in one piece, as oposed to lining up the motor to trans in the car
