anyone know what this is for?

does anyone know what that tear drop shape washer like thing with the bend at the end is in between the bump stop and the strut mount. i forgot to put one in a long time ago and i was wondering if that was causing my creaking sound and wether i should buy another one for the other side or not before i put in my camber plates. do i need this or could i just take it out. or, could the creaking sound be becuase i took out those peach/orange gasket that was between the strut mount and the chassis? oh, this is for the s14

I'm not sure if it's the same for S14 but on S13 it's better to have it since it align's the shocks, spring, and the upper mount. If you noticed, the tear shapped thing has a hole in the middle shapped like a "D". And if you look at the shocks, the top part where you put the nutt is also shapped like a "D". Also the tear shapped thing is bent at the tip, like you said and the bent part hooks in to a hole on the upper plate (the piece that goes on after the sprinng).
