Gas gauge gets stuck on the E symbol

The gas gauge gets stuck on my 89' 240... I've noticed that the floater gets stuck on some metal object in the gas tank. I have fixed it before but it keeps getting stuck again with that object. Any suggestions so it doesn't get stuck anymore?

It's not a foreign metal object n it's the stock gas tank. The gas tank floater gets stuck somewhere

yeah..... cleaning it is really going to stop it from hitting the baffles in the tank.

Your best bet is to pop the fuel pump inspection cover, and get a light down there, see what its hitting and why. it may be bent, the rod could be broken, one of the baffles may be bent (i had this in an old tank)

Easy fix. Take the floater out and see the metal wire touches and slides smoothly on the surface. Well, you can replace the fuel pump while you are at it.
