sorry guys..but i tried searching but idk what to search for?

what does the return spring and check ball do? after i installed my short shifter today i read about it just making sure i did things right...i never took it out on the removal but i donr recall seeing a spring sticking up...so tell me if its not there what should i feel for? or what it is for? what will happen if its not there? thanks

You 100% need that ball and spring to be there or it won't return to center properly.

It's easy to misplace for sure...I do have spares if you need any.
