View Full Version : SR20 pilot bearing question

I am installing a new clutch and got the flywheel resurfaced and torqued down. I went to put pilot bearing in and it won't fit in the beginning of input hole due to a pressed bearing already in it. i was told it was for an automatic transmission n needed to come out. Which doesn't make sense knowing that I drove on this engine with a manual Tranny. But if I can't get pilot bearing in, then I can't put my new clutch on. So I'm just seeing what you guys think about it? I have already tried pulling it out, but its not happening. Already broke one pilot bearing puller. I really don't want to cut it out or dremal it, but if that's what I have to do so be it. Just let me know what your opinions are.

Take a picture and we can tell you what the hell is in there. One trick I usually do to get the pilot bearing out is to stuff grease into the hole/bearing, then jam the alignment tool into the hole and tap it with a hammer.

Yup, thats an auto pilot bearing. Your option is take a drill, drill 2 holes directly opposite of each other, then get a chisel/hammer and collapse the bearing to pop it out. Be careful not to drill into the crank.
