View Full Version : Noob question: What would cause this hose to blow? 91 S13

I think this is the hose to the EGR and it has a big hole blown in it, so now under throttle exhaust poors out of it and I'm losing a lot of power.

What would cause that? Wondering if I am wasting my time replacing that hose if whatever caused it to blow to begin with would do the same thing again soon.

Thanks!

That looks like an AC line, not sure if im looking at the same thing. So if its an ac line your problems and symptoms probably lie somewhere else.

Thanks cotbu...are you talking about the "corrugated" hose or the black rubber hose above it?

The corrugated hose is the one that has the hole in it.

Gotcha...thanks. So any ideas on what would make that AC line blow like that?

Damaged hose internally and an over pressurization could cause it to pop. Make sure the actually hose is blown though. That aluminum sleeving is to protect the hose from excessive heat.

Okay...I just did some feeling around and the black rubber hose above the AC line has a hole in it too. Both holes line up perfectly so it looks like the black rubber hose blew and put too much heat on the AC line?

What does that black rubber hose go to?

Thanks for enduring the basic questions!

It looks like it curls around and ends up going into the down pipe of the exhaust?

the one with the metal tube is for your EGR valve system so hot exhaust runs through it.

if that one sprung a leak it would be blasting the A/C line with exhaust gasses causing it to fail over time

Anyone know what that rubber hose is called so I can try to track down a replacement since it looks like it has a particular bend to it?

Thanks for the help everyone...appreciate it.

you'll have to order that one from Nissan

While you are ordering the hose, you could just internally sleeve it. 2 clamps and a short pipe of the same inner diameter as the hose.

This sounds correct

While you are ordering the hose, you could just internally sleeve it. 2 clamps and a short pipe of the same inner diameter as the hose.

you'll have to order that one from Nissan

Both are valid options.

Thanks for the idea Cotbu...I slid a piece of brass piping down the hose and then added a couple of clamps around it, reattached it and now it is running normally again...at least for now.

I appreciate the help everyone.
