help, ka24de distributor

hey guys havin a problem,,

91 240sx fastback
engine ka24de

for the last 2 weeks now, i cant get the distrubutor drive gear to connect to the big gear,( i dont kno wats it called), but when i put in the distributor back in, it just keeps spinning and spinning, it doest mate with the upper gear,,
