I was just wondering....I am about to pull the motor/transmission and was just about to take the transmission mount off when I realized the transmission hasn't been drained. If I do not drain it will the fluid spill out the back? I don't remember if there was a seal back there that would stop that from happening or not. I normally would just drain it but the fluid only has ~5k miles on it and it seems a shame to waste it.

I don't think it maters much but its a redtop sr.

There is a seal back there, but it won't prevent fluid from leaking from extreme angles. Draining is preferred.

like killer said, but if you drop the trans out then pull the motor you can do so without draining all the fluid..... however, if you plan on pulling them out together, just go ahead and drain it...

Yea...wish I had the room to get the tranny out from under the car but its much easier this way (for me). Fluid is draining...now I wait...

its possible if you unbolt the input shaft from the drive shaft. i think 5 or 6 bolts cant remember for sure. also if you are just doing work on the motor you could always leave the trans in the car

If it does spill, it isn't that hard to put new stuff in. ( yes it will spill )

what I did ( internet told me ) and worked fine was :
take the shifter assembly off the top of the trans.
fill up from that spot. ( after draining it all out )

I do need the tranny out unfortunately. Besides there are a couple bolts that I do not want to deal with when detaching the tranny. It saves me quite a bit of time to do it this way (both in and out). Really its not much trouble to drain it. I just thought I would save a few bucks and my nose from that awful stench. I swear it smells like someone puked in the transmission.
Oh the filler bolt is stuck on the tranny so I fill mine that way too. I spent an hour doing anything I could to get the stupid thing off and gave up and just filled it from the shifter. The only problem is to be sure I don't over fill I have to drain it all out and fill back with correct amount.

2.5qts for the transmission.

why not just unbolt the tranny from the block. then you can take the tranny out without spilling anything. it's like 8-10 bolts.. takes maybe 30 mins.

Get a jug, drain the trans, and then refiill the trans. Not hard at all. Then again for the cost of a jug (or if you can't find an old coffee can) just flush it with new.

Really? Most likely for S14 too, correct? I thought it would be way more.
