Loud Rear trunk anytips on how to calm it down ?

Hi guys ; ever sinced i gutted my rear (back seats / speaker brackets / spare tire / etc etc) the trunk got louder i was expecting it aswell but didnt quite expect it to be this loud / after i installed the sub frame spacers (T3) i started to hear sqeaking and clunking noises..its pretty loud and i got somewhat used to it but its kinda hard to keep a conversation and especially driving with your gf ..all she does is whine anyhow i love the car its my dream car in the making =) next to my 300zx TT anyhow do you guys have any tips on how i can calm down the rear ? i would love the sqeaking and clunking noise to go away and i cant pinpoint where its coming from..all i can really guess is that it might be my sub frame spacers (installed upper/lower)..anyhow any input would be nice...

When I got my car, my trunklid was rattling whenever I went over a bump so I found out about unbolting the trunk latch and slightly lowering it a little so that when the trunk closed it would close tighter. As for squeaking, I can't help you there.

These helped me out. helped with some of the rattles. the clunk got a little quieter too. I have a lot too.

Zenki was right about unbolting & lowering the trunk latch - it compresses the rubber bump stops located on the bottom portion of the trunk lid reducing some of the rattling sound. You might want to try adding some rubber bumpers...something like the attached...

Any hardware store or Radio Shack should carry these bumpers. What you want to do is use the self adhesive on the bottom of the bump stops placing them on the metal frame of the car body/trunk area directly below where the stock rubber bump stops rest on your car body. What the rubber bumpers do is to compress your trunk lid tighter against the car - helping to reduce the trunk rattle. My buddy Jason told me about doing this to help reduce trunk rattle noise.
As for all the other creaks & groans...sounds like the results of a stiffer suspension...you think about putting dynomat down to help reduce the noise?? http://www.dynamat.com/

simple answer: get rid of the g/f.... :D

dynamat would just increase weight. i'd put my interior back in before using dynamat, if i was going for weight savings.... but i'm not, so dynamat and full custom interior =P

Check the wiring harnesses as well. I found a lot of my trunk rattle was the loom whacking the top of the trunk and reverberating in the trunk space.

you could be like me going for weight savings and have the only wires that go past where your rear seat used to be activate tailights and fuel pump and no other wires. that might help. I know with my car gutted there is definitely more road noise then before. especially in rain.

It doesn't do all that much for noise but it sure makes it prettier. Pure rubber undercoating.
