95 Silvia Consult Port Question

So i have a 95 silvia converted 240sx (rhd, zenki sr), but the consult/engine wiring is all factory from the silvia.

I bought one of those ebay consult port scanners plugged it in with a serial to usb adapter cable, i turned the key to ignition and smoke started coming out of it... i was like wow chinese crap, anyway they sent me another one, and i tried it again, smoked out again. I honestly think it might be the cord i have i bought it off mycablemart.com does anyone have any input on this? should i buy one of those $80 ecu talk cords or am i gunna burn that up too?

Just to clear this up for people looking to hook up their consult ports-

DO NOT BUY THE EBAY JUNK, the first one i bought burned up right when i turned the key, bought another one and waited forever for it, plugged it in and it did the exact same thing.

Talked to Peter from ecutalk and he said his cord will work.. i bought it hooked it up turned the key and bang working gauges...

dont waste your money or worse your time with the ebay shit!
