S14 with s13 sr swap no coolant temp reading

Ok before I start a little about me and my swap

I am a high line auto tech and have been for 11 yrs. I'm no stranger to cars wiring etc but I am humble enough to admit when I'm wrong and open to new ideas.

My swap is in my 1996 s14 I installed a 180sx black top sr20det engine
Wiring specialties harness, fmic, full exhaust, and it is running a power fc d jetro.

Car runs great idles great once warm rock solid at 800rpm I have the iacv capped so cold start is a little hard but not a big deal for me.

So there is no temp reading on the dash checked connection and its good. No temp reading for coolant on my pfc commander checked connection all is good

I go to sensor readings and the pfc shows that the wtrtemp sensor is 5v.
And highlighted. According to the manual this means that the sensor is bad and in need of replacement. So I did I replaced the sensor. Still no change

I have bleed the coolant system 2 times and checked that coolant is behind the sensor. I have check the wiring harness for a break and nothing.no
change any ideas guys?

Also my heck engine light is on solid.
And the temps read for about a day and now nothing so it was working but now does not I am stumped

I'm going to add an aftermarket temp gauge and was wondering if I can jus add the signal wire from the aftermarket gauge and wire it into the pfc ?

You must use the coolant temperature sensor from a 96 KA. The sensor matches up with your cluster to get a correct reading.

Then why did it work before ? With the sr stock sensor. I'm not real concerned about the dash more the ecu reading and since the ecu is for a 180sx sr20det like the motor came from them the temp sensor should be used that came with the motor

Hmm, its only one of two things, bad sensor or something in the wiring. Does it sputter when its warmed up? Classic symptom of a bad ECU water temp sensor. Also, what did you cross reference the water temp sensor out of?

Nope no sputtering At all runs clean not puking fuel or black smoke at all

Hmm, thats fucking weird then. Its not sputtering like a bad sensor. Figured the engine would be dumping extra fuel. Pulled any code out of the ECU yet?

The cel is on but how do you pull codes on a pfc

I thought it was just sensor check and he highlighted sensor is it. In this case it's water temp

Fixed. I guess there is a problem with my wiring specialties harness. I by passed the coolant connector took another one from my s13 stock harness and wired it directly to the ecu. Problem solved.

Hmm...check with Yury, maybe he'd do something for you to back his product up. Still funny how the wiring is doo-doo. Did you check continuity from the plug to the ECU?

Remeber there are two different gauges for the coolant temp, dash and ECU


I can see the ECU seeing one thing, and the dash the other (the dash one being that small single wire sensor). I can't remember for the life of me, but I think I used both KA sensors with my swap, but I can't remember.

When I cut the harness open the gauge sensor was wired straight to ground. I also think the o2 sensor is wired incorrectly I don't get a voltage change at all on my sensor check
