I need to know this before to late. Help.

Why is my sr20det burning Water ?
I have to add more then a gallon of water every three days of driven.

I got No Water leak , No white Smoke , No oil and water mixed .
I smell little fuel from the exhaust tho.

Any one knows what's wrong. Any idea ??

Not to sound like a dick, but are there any visible leaks such as from the water pump?

Also top it up with coolant not water unless you want to corrode your engine.

No visible leaks. I did top it off with just coolant .. Same thin

Are your temps increasing?

Ya every time the temps goes up find out the coolant is almost empty. But what is wiered is the radiator is not steaming not really hot when u touch it

Rent a coolant pressure tester from Checkers/O'Reilly. Plugs into where the rad cap goes and pressurizes the system so you can look for leaks. If you can't find any and it's still not holding pressure you may have a blown head gasket.

Will do that. thanks
I have feeling that I might have a blown head gasket.

^ +1

For it to be a leak or headgasket.

Blown head gasket

Might be a waterpump gasket, well mine gave way lol so i replaced the waterpump+gasket as a whole have no problems since then. Was having the same problem as you too.

do a compression test... get it over with....

good luck

your head gasket is damaged

most likely a partial blown HG. not bad enough to burn excessive coolant.

BHG. learn to spell also.

Check if your water pump is leaking from the little hole it has , mine was leaking from there , I often put water in it , changed the water pump and fixed the problem , try that before you try the head gasket

Ok I just done doing a compression test
#1,2,3,4 all read 140psi. I Doubt that won't be a head gasket.

What you thinks ??

My radiator cap is 13 LBS made in USA. Do u think that be a problem ?

You can see if your water pump is leaking , just turn on the car and see if it is dripping from the little hole that it has on the bottom

what temp does it run? might just be cap .if it gets hot ,coolant will overflow and not circulate back in!

If its the cap you should see evidence of leaking (dried coolant) on our around the cap. If the compression is fine get the car on a hoist or jack stands and look from underneath with flashlight to find the leak then trace back to its orgin.
It has to be a leak somewhere.

Compression Test will prove nothing for your problem. You need to do a leak down test.

^this. also could be the turbo leaking/burning, cracked casting. or headgasket could have a fracture and only leaking under boost. and for shits and giggles check the heater hoses in the car haha

Found it. Radiator cap was bad. But now the thermostat opens little late so I'm getting the NISMO one tomowwor. I'll update it

By the way I'm running a oil cooler only on my turbo. No water cooler don't really need it. I have that setup for more then 4 years now.

thermostat run without it for alittle see what happens i had same problem aftermarktet rad runs way coolder

my .2 cents cooming up

thermostat opens at 180F if the water hitting the thermostat is 100 to 120 its gonna close chokeing the motor(hardly and flow burning water in the motor not the rad until it heats up and boils over in the motor)of water i had this same problem on my car thermostat here in u.s.a suck nismo low temp thermostats r awesome

run without the thermostat see what happens if it still burns water then you have a bigger problem

and i live in the dessert i have to run cold so i drilled small holes in the stock thermo around the rim to delete this problem havent burned coolant or water since

z32 rad cap is higher pressure than s13. cheap upgrade.

I'm running it with no thermostat now. I drove it for 40 min still good so far. I'll update about it soon.

Burning water problem gun.:Ownedd:

1. I bought a regional thermostat and i made very little holes on it..
2. new cap 1.4Bar

little advice from me.... you need to fill the engine with coolant from the upper hose before you fill your radiator after that star withe your radiator that way you get away from having air in your coolant system.

I just saw this post, and I'm happy you figured it all out! I'll still post what I know just for future problems if anyone has them!
The radiator cap can also cause the upper hose to collapse as well if it is not holding pressure. Also to help check for radiator leaks, just pump pressure into the radiator itself until you reach the max psi for the cap. Be sure not to over pressurize it or else it could cause other problems. Once you reach the correct psi the leak should be visible and if it isn't, try leaving it pressurized over night then check again in the morning. You can also add dye to your coolant before hand, so you can find the leaks even if the coolant evaporates.
Also, one more thing with the thermostat lol Try not to drive without one, because some people think that you dont need one during the summer because they say you will always want your coolant to be flowing, but the thermostat actually helps cool the coolant by adding and then stopping coolant flow so it can sit in the radiator to cool. Sorry I typed a lot everyone, I hope I didn't bore anyone to death lol hopefully this helps someone :)

Not running a thermostat is never a good thing...
