View Full Version : rounded bolt on turbo

Hey guys does anyone have any suggestions on how I can get the bolt out of the hot side of the turbo under the oil drain I rounded it off has anyone had this problem???????

u can take it to a muffler shop and have them weld something on to the head of the bolt and turn it out

Yea the only thing that fits is wrenches I like the ideal about welding ill try that tomorrow

Take the turbo off, re-clock it to make space for bolt extractors.

Locking vice grips, lots of PB blaster.

Loosen the bolts to the back of the housing, maybe knock it slightly lose if the rubber mallet since some turbos have a sealant on the housing.

Most places sell a drill bit set that extracts studs or broken parts.


It drills a tiny hole and then you use the other part to grip in the hole and reverse it out.

Which fucking sucks cuz they have a tendency to snap off inside the studs. Ask me how I know... :picardfp:

grinder, grind to a size that fits open end wrench or heat up and hammer a socket on to it.

Never had a problem with mine snapping! I think it was called the Grabber?...

I'd probably try and apply heat to the bolt before extracting

ive ground them off...it works too...i also have a set from snapon thats just a socket, may have to pull turbo an manifold out to get it off tho...

vice grip or take a grinder and cut a groove in the head and back it out with a flat head screw driver
