my senior writing teacher is having us write a paper. we need to have concrete sources as well as interviews etc. can anyone recommend good reads about road racing and car setup --suspension tuning in particular.

lots of good SAE articles out on the internet. Thats about as concrete as it gets.

Otherwise just goto a practice day with a pit walk and try and pick peoples brains.

Here's a small, albeit good, list:
Carrol Shelby's Tune to Win

Don Alexander's High-performance Handling Handbook (Own, goes relatively deep)

Ross Bentley's Speed Secrets (Own, has basics that would be good to know before going deep)

Alan Staniforth's Race and Rally Car Sourcebook (This and Carrol Shelby's book are the deepest and will most likely be the best; highly rated on Amazon.)
