oil leak question- harmonic balancer?

i pinpointed my oil leak and have come to the conclusion that its either the seal behind the harmonic balancer or the oil pan gasket or both....is the harmonic balancer easy to replace the seal?...and should i use gasket sealant or just buy a new oil pan gasket?

Try replacing the crank pulley seal first...its fast and easy to do. Just remove the pulley, pull out the old seal and install new seal. If your engine has a lot of miles on it, chances are the pulley seal surface has a worn groove in it (probably the cause of your oil leak) which should be refinished and resleeved or it may be a good excuse to get an aftermarket lightweight pulley.
