recently picked up an s14 sr for cheap and previous owner said it needed new rings. compression tested 90, 100, 100, 100. So my question is what do i need to fix this besides new rings ($120?) and cylinder walls to be honed. thanks

full gasket kit, rod bearings, main bearings, thrust washers, a good assembly lube, black rtv

You're gonna be Tearing it down to bare block so you need a full oem rebuild kit. It would be a good time to think about any internals upgrades you might want in the future, pistons, rods, that sort of thing. Honestly way out how much it's going to cost you between the machine shop, parts and possible labor costs if you're not up to the task. It may not have been as good of a deal as you think after costs. Rebuilding an engine isn't cheap.

ok cool thanks for the replys. so the bearings, full gasket kit, metal head gasket, arp studs, rings n junk. is machine work "needed"? and im tryna to avoid buyin new pistons and wat not, stock should be fine with my power goal.

do not buy anything until you get everything taken apart and inspected. you might end up going to a bigger bore.

I rebuilt my sr a few months back. Looking at 2 grand give or take depending on your patience and resourcefullness. I replaced everything except crank and rods, used new oem pistons and all new gaskets, bearings, etc.... Yes, machine is recommended, new hone at least for good ring seating. If you resurface the block make sure you do it with the oil pump/timing chain cover installed so that it matches the deck of the block or it will be slightly taller.
