Anyone paint there turbo?

First off... I searched and didn't come up with much. I know guys on here have painted their turbos. I'm wondering how the are holding up... And what did they originally paint them with?

I don't want bling, but want my turbo, compression housing to look cleaner...

my co-worker at my dealership painted both his turbos, idk what the big one is from but his other is from a STI although they are not installed yet im sure they will hold up nice cuz the guy is a genius with cars. so if he is doing it im sure its ok, i can ask for pointers if youd like, just tell me what to ask. ill take pics tomorow.

Well paint type and process would be great. I assume he expects it to hold up to the +1600 degree temps that a turbo will reach...

Any word from guys who are actually running painted turbos would be awesome too!

well idk what paint he used for the turbo but he also painted his entire engine and it held up pretty nice. the process wasnt too complicated for the engine it was basically light sprays until it was good enough but he is very experianced with that stuff, and im pretty sure the stuff he used was from napa but ill ask.

Well the engine block doesn't get that hot.. So that's not a biggie. But the turbo cranks out heat...

exhaust manifolds can get pretty hot though and thats also painted lol basically every aspect of the engine is painted, heads, pulleys etc...

you can use high heat paint on the bearing housing and the compressor housing. but the turbine housing will burn the paint right off as soon as you drive the car hard. you can do ceramic coating on the turbine housing. i think they have a few choices of colors now. back then it was only silver.

Painting a turbo? If anything I would have it thermal barrier coated on the outsite, ONLY. At least then it would decrease thermal transfer to other parts of the engine bay and other parts.

Powder coat is good for like 475 degrees unless your making like a bagillion Hp your front housing will not hit that much....

Por-15 has a heat resistant paint good for 1400 i believe i just odered a can to paint my headers i wonder how it will hold up till i ceramic coat it.

i know someone with a powder coated sc61 on a ka and he said the powder coating was melting off during the dyno runs.

Mine has, amongst lots of other modifications, ceramic coating on the outside and the inside.
Keeps up exhaust flow speed and reduces under bonnet temp.
