sr20 help, what is this part

I'm putting together my SR and I'm just not sure what this is guys.
Sorry if its something obvious, I just cant seem to figure what it is.
This is a redtop by the way.

Looks like an aftermarket temp gauge. Guessing someone tapped the block and stuck it in there. (or found a stock hole then put the brass fitting in, not sure)
