Hello from France,

I'm new on Zilvia.net forum. I drive stock '94 200SX S14 with SR20DET engine. I'm engineer in automotive gearbox design.

My tech question is about Z32 brake conversion on a 200SX S14 car. My front brakes are 280x30mm discs with 4 pistons callipers (iron or aluminium, I don't know). What is the improvement to put Z32 brakes, which are, if I'm right, 280x30mm discs with 4 pistons callipers, so same dimension ?

More pads surface ? more large calliper piston diameter ?

I've got my brake measurement

Cylinder bore diameter : 40,4 mm x 2
Pad length x width x tickness : 116 x 50 x 10 mm

If you've got the 300ZX brake information, thanks ...

Here in the US we have 1 piston sliding calipers, with some pretty small rotors so the 300zx brakes are a big upgrade. I'm not sure what the differences are between the 300zx brakes and france 200sx brakes.

If your S14 is like the Japanese S14 K's, your front brake calipers are almost, if not the exact same as Z32 brakes.

I wouldn't bother doing a Z32 brake upgrade on your car, it probably won't make any difference.

Only in the US would we need them, since all the S-chassis got the shaft for brakes (and everything in general).

only the s13's and 180s which came with hardly bigger rotors did not have Z brakes. The s14, s15's all had z brake upgrades in japan and australia or anywhere it has an sr20det. The skyline r33's in gtr or is it gt-s are brake upgrades. otherwise invest in like a project mu 6 piston brake (3 on each side) or some good brake pads...like project mu or some other popular brands.

If you want bigger than you have now, look into 300zx brake upgrades. Not 240sx or 200sx brake upgrades. There are some decent upgrades that just use larger rotors, which generally make a pretty nice improvement.

Quick question.. what size is your Master Cylinder?

Hello,

My master cylinder is different than the Z32 : diameter 25.4mm. The other differences are the brake booster and the rear brake piston diameter.

About Skyline R-33 brake rotor needs 17" wheels (I've got standard at 16", so doesn't fit).

I think for the first step : Good brake pads like Ferodo DS 2500 + stainless braide hoses. And perhaps better rotor, treatment, grooved.

I know there is brake upgrade kit, with larger rotor, and bracket to mount them with the standard calliper. 310 mm is the maximum in standard wheel, see on www.apex-performance.co.uk.

Is this a Street brake upgrade, or for track use?

Ferodo pads are awesome.

Street use, and occasionnal track.
I must change my brake pads (Front and Rear), I will use this maintenance to upgrade my brake.

with a rotor that size, you can probably get away with a track pad and decent fluid.
